Visiting Saudi Foreign Minister HRH Prince Saud Al-Faisal was today welcomed by U.S. Secretary of State Warren Christopher.   In a photo opportunity before the start of the meeting at the State Department Christopher described Prince Saud Al-Faisal as a “long-time friend”, saying that this personal friendship reflects the long and cordial relationship between the United States and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with both countries continuing to work together to assure the security and stability of the region.

The U.S. Secretary of State confirmed that the agenda with the visiting Saudi Foreign Minister included discussions on the Middle East peace process, with a review of the status of the comprehensive efforts, and on the situation with Iraq, focusing on Iraqi compliance with the sanctions imposed by the United Nations.
Prince Saud Al-Faisal emphasized in his remarks that Saudi Arabia is committed to the Middle East peace process, that both countries will continue their close cooperation, and that Iraqi compliance with the UN resolutions is the best way to end the suffering of the Iraqi people, saying he was looking forward to his discussions with Christopher.
