Foreign minister holds meetings on the fringes of UN General Assembly

Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal has held a number of meetings with foreign ministers from various countries during his visit to New York.  


Prince Saud is currently in the United States as head of the Saudi delegation to the 63rd UN General Assembly.

Yesterday, Prince Saud and the foreign ministers of Arab countries met to review items on the General Assembly agenda that are of interest to Arab countries. In remarks to the press, Prince Saud said that the ministers discussed the importance of a UN Security Council meeting to address the issue of Israeli settlements in Palestinian territories. He expressed the hope that such a meeting would be held on or before next Friday.

Also yesterday, Prince Saud and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) foreign ministers held separate meetings with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The GCC-Russian talks focused on bilateral relations and economic cooperation, as well as key regional issues including Palestine, Iraq, the Iranian nuclear file, and the Middle East peace process.
While in New York, Prince Saud has also met separately with Secretary Rice and the foreign ministers of Italy, Nicaragua, Spain, Iraq, Jordan, Greece and Singapore.
