Embassy: Saudi citizens in Islamabad safe after deadly Marriott attack

In a statement today, Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Ali Asseri said that a 16-member crew from Saudi Arabian Airlines that was staying at the Marriott survived the blast. Six members of the crew – four Saudi citizens, a Syrian woman and a Pakistani woman – sustained minor injuries.

The Saudi Embassy transported the injured crew members to Al-Shifa Al-Dowali hospital in Islamabad, and the remaining airline employees were taken to the Pearl Continental Hotel in Rawalpindi.

The ambassador said that all Saudi students in Islamabad have been accounted for and are safe.

Asseri condemned the attack and said that the Saudi Embassy in Pakistan has advised all Saudi citizens to avoid public places and exercise caution.

In related news, the Jeddah-based Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) also condemned the attack. In a statement today, Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said that the perpetrators of the attack are enemies of peace.
